From a backyard summer camp for people with intellectual disabilities to a global sports movement, Special Olympics has been changing lives and attitudes since 1968.
Our team has proudly, and enthusiastically, supported Special Olympics Maine for many years. Each year, Bangor Federal Credit Union employees help facilitate both the regional and statewide Special Olympics events with other area organizations. Volunteers head out onto the field and help our local Special Olympians compete in various events, ushering in a day of smiles and personal achievement.
Our team also helps off the field, holding various fundraisers throughout the year to aid in Special Olympics Maine's mission. In 2025, Bangor Federal's staff, members, and community raised over $4,000 to help support Special Olympics Maine and their athletes.
From May 18th through June 12th, we are once again holding our "Light a Torch" fundraiser. Visit any one of our branches in Bangor, Brewer, or Ellsworth and "light a torch". Your donation of $3 or $5 helps us aid Maine's chapter of the Special Olympics in their mission to provide competition and camaraderie for the athletes in our community. Help us plaster the walls of Bangor Federal with all the names of our generous benefactors as we raise money for this terrific cause.
